Doorgunner, brewmaster, firefighter, pilot, and now author, James is motivated by his older brother's death. A fate he barely escaped thanks to a kind, retired, neighbor/teacher. When James and his young children suffered a trio of tragedies, motive met opportunity. He'd be there for his dad's final years, help his kids thrive, and write to repay his debt.
James grew up in California, a beach dude of the 70’s and 80’s. At 18, he joined the Army and served in Europe and the Middle East. After finishing UC Davis, he started a Microbrewery in North Carolina, then said Aloha to a Brewpub on Maui. In love, and with a baby on the way, he worked a couple of jobs before finding his calling as a Firefighter.
James’ two greatest achievements are his children. They’re better than he is in almost every way. An old fireman once told him “Your kids are only young once. Don’t miss it!” Best. Advice. Ever. The latchkey kid turned helicopter parent and smothered his kids with love, preventative advice, school prep, and quantity time to their hearts’ content.
James now lives in Texas and pursues his writing full-time with mucho gusto. His pilot journey has been paused, but that adventure will likely restart in the future. Seeing the country, connecting with people, and most importantly, helping kids, feels right, and could just be his destiny. May you all live your adventure to the best of your ability!
